Active indoor games for kids

Rain outside. Energy inside. Here's where it goes.

Put a game on the laptop, step back, and play it with your whole body. Zazti's 12 games run in the browser and use the webcam to see kids run, jump, flap and freeze. You need about a meter of floor, no equipment, and nothing to install.

What are good indoor games for kids with energy to burn?

Pillow Fight, Forest Run, Flap-Flap Race. Big arm swings, running on the spot and flapping, all fast. Two kids can race each other in Flap-Flap Race.

Are there games with no jumping?

Yes. Balloon Keep, Bubble Splash, Santa Catch, Snowball Fight only need hands. In Forest Run, throwing both hands up counts as a jump.

Good news for whoever lives downstairs.

How much room do we need?

About a meter between the kid and the camera, enough to stretch both arms out. A living room works. So does a classroom with the desks pushed back.

Shape Wall, Freeze even work sitting down.

What is a good rainy-afternoon plan?

Warm up, burn it off, race, cool down. Each round lasts about a minute.

  1. Warm up with Balloon Keep. Every touch scores, so everyone starts happy.
  2. Burn it off with Forest Run, then Pillow Fight.
  3. Race in Flap-Flap Race, two players side by side.
  4. Cool down with Bubble Splash, then Freeze to practice stopping.

Go round again, swap players, or turn on Party Mode for games back to back.

Does it work for indoor recess at school?

Yes. Put it on the projector. Two kids play, the rest copy the moves, then swap. No accounts and no student names.

Here is how teachers run it.

What do we need?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, and a bright room. No equipment, nothing to install. Plug the laptop into the TV if you want it big.
